DoD Procurement Foreceast

Air Force Pitch Day

Many mind-blowing ideas are being birthed in U.S. startup companies, but the Pentagon largely misses out on them. For our big bureaucracy, awarding a contract in months is a flash. The Pentagon must do business at the speed of ideas: inspiring and accelerating startup creativity toward national security challenges. The smaller the company, the faster we must move. We accept that challenge. Welcome to Air Force Pitch Day.

"Pitch Days are new fast tracks for startups to work with the Air Force. Modeled after commercial investment pitch competitions, our goal is to award $40 million to startups using one-day, one-page contracts. These awards use convenient credit card payments— we want partnering with the Air Force to be easy and energizing!" Dr. Will Roper, Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics

Description:

As the premiere Air Force cyber security annual event, the Air Force Information Technology & Cyberpower Conference (AFITC) returns to Montgomery, Alabama in August of 2018. As a critical intersection of Air Force IT experts, prominent IT academics, and some of America’s top cyber security companies, the AFITC offers a full of slate events and activities, with 3 days of speakers, expanded education/training opportunities, and an exhibitor-driven trade show that all revolves around the ways we can better defend America from cyber-attacks, advanced persistent threats, and proactively lead in this in this increasingly digital world.

In 2017 there was no shortage of security issues with the most prominent being the Equifax data breach in which the personal information of over 160 million Americans was compromised. 2018 will undoubtedly have its share of massive data breaches, viruses, and malware attacks, but as these cyber threats evolve so too must the security measures, protocols, software, and hardware that work together to prevent them. It is in this climate where the AFITC Conference becomes so important. The collaborative effort between the Air Force and the private sector must lead the way when it comes to ensuring the nation’s security and providing the tools and strategies critical to success.

As the AFITC Conference continues to grow, 2017 saw more than 3400 total attendees, over 150 exhibitors, and 50% more training sessions than in 2016. The 2018 event is currently in development, but check back often for updates to the agenda, training, keynote speakers, and show schedule.

DYK: Aircraft have lifespans! Like humans, they require check-ups in the form of maintenance inspections to prolong their ability to fly. These "checks" prevent in-flight system failures which ultimately protects aircrew and passengers. Learn more from the 86th Maintenance Squadron at Ramstein Air Base, Germany on what it takes to correct issues so aircraft can stay airborne.
